Dr. Surat Tanprawate, MD, FRCPT, MSc(London.)

Assistant Professor Dr. Surat Tanprawet is a distinguished physician specializing in the nervous system and brain, currently serving as the Head of the Neurology Unit. Additionally, he holds pivotal roles such as President of the Headache Club under the Neurological Association of Thailand, Head of the IT Department at the Neurological Association of Thailand, and Deputy Head of the Medical Innovation Center at Chiang Mai University. Dr. Tanprawet is also an active member of the working group within the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, contributing his expertise in developing initiatives related to the nervous system and brain, headache diseases, organizational and hospital administration, and innovation with a focus on widespread public impact.

During times of crisis and disease outbreaks, Dr. Tanprawet has demonstrated his commitment to societal well-being. Notable contributions include leading the medical team in aiding victims of the Thai tsunami (2004), addressing the Botulism outbreak from bamboo shoots in Ban Luang District, Province of Nan (2006), and launching the Gene Screening Test unit for Spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) disease in Dok Khamtai District, Phayao Province (2007).

Having earned a Diploma in Neurology from the Faculty of Medicine at Chiang Mai University, Dr. Tanprawet continued his academic pursuits with an MSc in Clinical Neurology and a Research Fellowship in Headache at University College London (2009-2010). His international engagements include serving as the Representative of Asia for the International Working Group of Young Neurologists (IWGYNT) and contributing to the development of neurology education globally as a member of the IT and Social Media Team of the World Federation of Neurology (WFN).

Upon returning to Thailand, Dr. Tanprawet assumed the role of lecturer in the Neurology Unit at the Department of Internal Medicine, Chiang Mai University. From 2013 to 2018, he held various management positions, including Head of the Thai Traditional and Complementary Medicine Center (TTCM), Head of the Geriatric Medical Center (GMC), and Deputy Head of the Center for Medical Excellence (CMU). His initiatives during this period encompassed the development of care for the elderly, training for caregivers, recreational activities, and the establishment of the Smart Home Smart Living for Aging Society project.

As an advocate for innovation with a profound social impact, Dr. Tanprawet played a crucial role in establishing the Medical Innovation Center (MEDCHIC) under the Faculty of Medicine at Chiang Mai University and Suandok Medical Innovation District (SMID) in collaboration with the National Innovation Agency (NIA). Leading the InnoHealth Project, he aims to release innovations developed by faculty and researchers to society.

Dr. Tanprawet's commitment to improving the lives of migraine patients is evident through his founding of the "smile migraine" application, which has garnered over 25,000 users nationwide. As the current president of the Headache Club of Thailand, he focuses on addressing the issue of overuse of painkillers with the campaign "The more you use the medicine, the more you get headaches." Dr. Tanprawet emphasizes collaborative connections and innovative solutions in his work philosophy, believing that successful and sustainable problem-solving requires a collective effort.
